On October 24, 14 media reporters from 13 Latin American countries including Argentina, Panama, Peru, and Brazil walked into China Huaneng’s Tianjin IGCC demonstration power station to gain an in-depth understanding of China’s practical exploration in the field of green coal power. This event is one of the “Reading China” Chinese and foreign online media exchange projects. Relevant leaders from the China Public Diplomacy Association, Global Network and China Huaneng participated in this event.

The Latin American press group watched promotional videos, models, display boards, etc. in the power station exhibition hall to fully understand the construction status and technical characteristics of the power station. Brazilian journalist Juliano Dipu Lencioni expressed high praise for the power station’s ability to achieve near-zero emissions from coal power. He used the word “leading” to describe the IGCC power station. He said that Brazil is vigorously promoting energy transformation and has broad prospects for cooperation with China in the field of green coal power.

In the gasifier area of the power station, the reporter observed closely and understood the core technology of the power station – a two-stage dry pulverized coal pressurized gasifier. Peruvian journalist Cesar Romero said that the active exploration of Chinese enterprises in the field of green coal power has made him truly feel the sustainable development concept of “both economic benefits, social progress and environmental friendliness”.

After the visit, the reporter held discussions and exchanges with relevant persons in charge of Huaneng and power station staff, and conducted in-depth consultation and discussion on technology, environmental protection, application prospects and other issues.

The Latin American journalist group appreciated Huaneng’s achievements in the field of cutting-edge technological innovation, praised China’s efforts in combating global climate change, and expressed their intention to actively disseminate reports in their respective countries so that more people can understand China’s plans and experience.

It is understood that the Huaneng Tianjin IGCC demonstration power station is my country’s first large-scale IGCC power station and the world’s sixth large-scale IGCC power station independently developed, designed, manufactured, constructed and operated by China, with an installed capacity of 265,000 kilowatts. The power station was put into operation in November 2012. It uses the world’s first two-stage dry coal pulverized pressurized gasifier with Huaneng’s independent intellectual property rights and a number of new technologies and processes. It is the most environmentally friendly coal-fired power station in China.
