CHN Energy Investment Group put the No.1 coal-fired units into operation at its Yueyang power plant in Hunan after passing a full-load trial run on October 25, marking the commissioning of the 50th coal-fired unit with capacity of 1 GW or above, the company said. The number represented 30% of the country’s total, with capacity ranking first.
The Yueyang power plant’s new unit, with a construction period of just 21 months and 29 days, has set a new industry benchmark for its rapid construction. With a designed coal consumption of 267g/KWh, it stands as the most energy-efficient coal-fired unit of its kind in the country.
The successful commissioning of this project is expected to significantly alleviate electricity shortages in Hunan province and play a crucial role in ensuring the stable operation of the power grid in central China. Over recent years, CHN Energy has been on an accelerated path toward green and low-carbon transformation, focusing on maintaining stable power supply through clean and efficient coal-fired power generation.
CHN Energy boasts a total installed power capacity of 307.06 GW as of October 30, 2023, with 204.69 GW from thermal power, which accounted for approximately 15% of the national total. These coal-fired power units are known for their industry-leading coal consumption rates.
It also has 102.37 GW of clean and renewable energy capacity, making up approximately 33.4% of the company’s total capacity, making a significant contribution to promoting low-carbon and clean energy consumption in the energy sector.
