China’s national production of coke, crude steel, pig iron, and steel continued to show YoY growth

Data from China’s National Bureau of Statistics show that from January to October 2023, national coke, crude steel, pig iron and steel production continued to show year-on-year growth. 

Specifically:

  • The national coke output was 410.01 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.9%. Coke production in October was 41.54 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.8% and a month-on-month increase of 0.2%. Based on this calculation, the average daily coke production in October was 1.34 million tons, a month-on-month decrease of 3.0%.
  • The country’s crude steel output was 874.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%. The output in October was 79.09 million tons, down 1.8% year-on-year and 3.7% month-on-month; the average daily output in October was 2.55 million tons, down 6.8% month-on-month.
  • The national pig iron output was 744.75 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%. The output in October was 69.19 million tons, down 2.8% year-on-year and 3.3% month-on-month; the average daily output in October was 2.23 million tons, down 6.4% month-on-month.
  • The national steel output was 1.14418 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.7%. Production in October was 113.71 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.0% and a month-on-month decrease of 3.5%; the average daily output was 3.67 million tons, a month-on-month decrease of 6.6%.
